Nepal is a geographically diverse country with tremendous beauty. From the high Himalayas covered in snow to greenery highlands and plain lowlands, it has many more to serve in its beauty. People can enjoy the serene beauty of the Himalayas and explore its natural complexities with various adventurous activities like mountaineering, trekking, mountain biking, paragliding, skydiving, and many more.

Some major adventurous activities of Nepal are listed below:

Mountaineering

Nepal is known as a mountainous country where mountains are both identity and pride. Moreover, half the total area of Nepal covers the mountains and Himalayas region having several opportunities for mountaineers. Among the 14 highest mountains in the world, 8 (above 8000m) are inside the territory of Nepal.

Being one of the most adventurous activities in Nepal, it attracts several mountaineers every year from various parts of the world. From beginners to experienced, everyone visits Nepal for its mountain expedition as it has much to offer, from small mountains to the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest (8848.86m). The ultimate goal of most mountaineers around the globe is to reach the summit of Everest, where mountaineering is done more in Nepal. On the same note, 238 mountains that are above 6000m are open for any mountaineers to conquer, such as Annapurna (8091), Kanchenjunga (8586m), Makalu (8463), Dhaulagiri (8167), and many more.

 

Trekking

Trekking is the advanced form of hiking in which walking days are extended. Normally, trekking trails are a bit longer and reach more altitudes relative to hiking. 4 -5 days of trekking is considered easy and it varies in length from 20 -22 days and even more. In Nepal, it is better to trek toward the northern part starting from a height of around 1000m and then ascending to a maximum height of about 5000m. While trekking, you are offered the serene beauty of the Himalayas, beautiful landscapes, rivers, and waterfalls. Trekking to the Himalayas amazes you with the local culture and food. Trekking is an adventure activity that is not so daring to do if you are strong enough to walk a minimum of 4 hours to a maximum of 10 hours a day.

In Nepal, the Everest base camp trek is the best and most popular trek, which leads you to the foot of Mount Everest. There you can enjoy the essence of the highest mountain in the world. Similarly, other famous trek routes of Nepal are the Annapurna circuit trek, Langtang trek, Manaslu trek, Mardi Himal trek, and so on.

 

Rock climbing

Nepal is a country with high mountains and different landscapes, rock climbing is another great adventure and daring activity that could happen here in Nepal. People who love adventure do not miss rock climbing in Nepal, as it does not require much time when doing it lightly. Unsurprisingly it’s been the best pastime of youths, either local or visitor. Sometimes people do it professionally and take participation in rock climbing activities and earn accolades.

Rock climbing is also taken as a practice activity for the high mountain expedition and mountaineering. Asterisk Climbing Wall, Kathmandu Sports Climbing Center, and Pasang Lhamu Sports Climbing Center are among the famous climbing wall in Kathmandu. And for natural rock climbing, the Nagarjuna rock climbing spot could be closest to Kathmandu, which is a 55m high vertical limestone surface.

 

Rafting

Nepal is blessed with more than 6 thousand rivers and rivulets among which more than 100s are white water rivers that are suitable for river adventure. It should be your foremost priority to go on rafting if river thrill rides are your thing.

You can ride rafting for a few hours to single-day trips or the rafting expedition of many days involving hiking and unspoiled areas. There is a trip for everyone, whether you are a beginner or an advanced thrill seeker. You can choose the rivers of your wish from classes 1 to 6 that are quieter to advance thrillers. If you want to go on a family float trip you can choose quieter rivers.

Rafting is suggested most from September to December, but other months are also open to raft anyway. Trishuli, upper Seti, Bhotekoshi, etc., are for you if you are a beginner or want to go on a pleasant trip with family members. On the contrary, Karnali River, Sunkoshi River, and Arun River are recommended if you want to add thrill and do it for multiple days.

 

Paragliding

Paragliding is the only adventure where you can feel like flying as a bird in the open sky with the world beneath you. It is the most adventurous activity that no one should miss in Nepal. Flying like a bird, cool winds all around and the scenic view of the Himalayas dominating the skies helps you create unforgettable memories for a lifetime.

Paragliding gives you a most thrilling flying experience than other types of flying as ultra-light flying. Flying in the sky, you can reach far more in sight and view nature like never before. You can choose your flying period for a short period of 15 minutes to 60 minutes cross-country flight that covers a wide range of skies. You are even free to fly solo if you have trained in paragliding or tandem with an experienced pilot. The tandem style of paragliding is popular and thus suggested if you are a beginner.

It is weather dependent type of sport. If the weather is clean, you can fly paragliding. Months of March, April, May, September, October, and November are considered the best time for this adventure. Other than this, it all depends upon the weather. One of the most famous spots for paragliding is Sarankot, Pokhara. Here you can fly over the tranquil lake of Phewa, sides by the beautiful city of Pokhara, which resides in the lap of the beautiful Annapurna mountain range. So all these factors made this spot famous and adventurous.

Bungee Jumping

It is another daring activity or sport that any adventure lover does not want to miss if provided an opportunity to do it. It requires a strong heart and a thrilling desire to jump off that much height on its own.

The Bhote Koshi bungee jump is the first and most popular in Nepal and as well as around the world. The 160m jump height made this particular bungee one of the highest jumps in the world, being done from the middle of the suspension bridge. This bungee jump is in Sindupalchowk district which is a 3hours drive from Kathmandu.

High Ground Adventures in Pokhara also offers you a jump of 70m

near the Seti River. So if you are in Pokhara and want to do a thrilling jump, you should not miss it. Besides this, the Kushma Bungee jump operated over the Kali Gandaki George is the second-highest bungee in the world and the first-highest bungee in Asia which is 228m in height is there for you to experience an advanced thriller. It is carried out from the middle of a 520m long suspension bridge between Baglung and Parbat two districts of Nepal.

 

Canyoning

It is another adventure and thrill-provider activity that is both challenging and fun. If you are the kind of person who does not want to miss any adventure activity in life, then this is also waiting for you. Though it is an adventurous sport, most people miss it due to the lack of advertisements, especially in Nepal. Canyoning is often missed from the bucket list of many adventurers but it should not have to be.

A guided approach of Canyoning with experienced is recommended if you are all new to this thrilling activity. Besides that, though you are professional, knowing the current waterfall and other complexities of that specific Canyoning are essential. You should always follow the safety instructions and use all the right gear, such as a helmet, wet suit, life jacket, ropes, etc.

Sundarijal and Kakani are nearer the Canyoning site from Kathmandu. And Canyoning at panglang and kanglang Khola, operated by The Last Resort is worth doing too. Also, some other popular Canyoning sites in Nepal are Jalbire Canyon, Raindu Khola (Syangja), and Jagat Khola (Lamjung).
